WOW: Cabbages, Orchids or Roses?!

WOW = WIPs On Wednesdays
This past Sunday we celebrated Mother's Day and my DDs brought me this gorgeous cabbage. Isn't it picture perfect? (ignore my messy bench!) The week before I had been moaning about taking care of three potted indoor orchids we have. They always worry me. I either over or under water them and them wait around anxiously for them to die. It's awful because I really do love plants but sometimes I think a cabbage would be more useful. Well, I must have said this out loud during my orchid watering spree because they reminded me of it on Sunday when they gifted me this vegetable. I know it seems unlikely, but I was over the moon about it. I haven't been able to find any nice one green enough  at the grocer's and it's the perfect weather for some cabbage rolls. As of today, I haven't made any so that will be today's task, in the slow cooker.

I got some cut roses too, but honestly I think this cabbage head is the real beauty!

As for me, I've been stretching and seeing a bone setter to get me back on track. I can sit in the car now but I still can't walk down stairs. Walking up them is fine, but going down is too hard. Still, I am improving every day and happy about that. I've been catching up on some blog work, patterns and emails too, so it's been nice to start getting on top of my never ending list of things to do.

But for the rest of today, I'll be cooking for the week ahead. It's cold my way and perfect some some slow cooked soups.

What's Your WOW?

  1. Dear Esther

    That is one grand cabbage. Here is the bit I love the most as a cabbage. It is a natural antibiotic. The only green one's we can find, they are not anywhere near as green as this one, are very small. We use the cabbage leaves as wrap's in the summer. They are so good for us. Kids do listen to us, after a recent accident in our house, my son told me: Mom, you tell us not to run inside, so now you know, neither should you. Out of the mouth of babe's! Have you ever tried to place fresh whole cabbage leaves on area's of your body where you have a lot of pain? In Africa one use the leaves for many things, including new mom's who breast feed and have too much milk. The cabbage leaves help to release the pressure and the milk flows. Nature is an amazing thing to watch in motion. Hope you are back to your normal self soon.

  2. It is a beautiful cabbage Esther but Im not sure Id pick it over a orchid plant as up here in the tropics we just stick the orchid on a tree and let it flower yearly for us which they do LOL Walking down stairs do you have a rail on the stairs??? My mum could not walk down stairs before her operation and they told her to walk down the stairs backward holding on to the rail, it works a treat, when my knee is so bad I walk down stairs backwards now too. Cheers Glenda

  3. I think it's DELIGHTFUL that you were gifted a cabbage for Mother's Day! I'm sending healing prayers your way, Esther -- I hate that you've been in pain for so long.

  4. I'm glad to see you are making progress. Try walking down the stairs backwards, seriously. Just make sure you hold the railing with both hands.

  5. I love cabbage rolls and that cabbage is perfect for them. I've never made them in a crock pot though. For my orchid, I feed it three ice cubes per week, that is all and it seems to be enough. I'm intrigued by Denise's suggestion of walking down the stairs backwards.
